Knowledge and learning are in a stage of transformation and upheavals so momentous that some people claim we are in the throes of a learning revolution, created by new information and communication technologies and associated with a change in knowledge systems and patterns.
Work Plan Questions:
- How are Aboriginal peoples using computer technology for preserving, maintaining or transmitting of knowledge to future generations?
- What kinds of policies and good practices exist that govern the network and influence provinces, territories, and other bodies to engage sound foundation of policies and practices as they affect Aboriginal peoples’ knowledge?
- What social, cultural, geographical, financial barriers to e-learning exist among Aboriginal communities and individuals and how have these been addressed?
- In what ways has e-learning and its diverse computer technologies afforded learning opportunities for Aboriginal peoples to enhance or develop skills, receive certificates, diplomas, and degrees, or prepare individuals for professional work, business development, organizations, schools, programs, etc.?
- What kinds of accreditation exist for e-learning in rural communities, and how can these be advanced to improve learning in diverse communities?
- What are the possibilities of e-learning with Aboriginal learners and what are its limitations?
- How can government support and advance these initiatives across jurisdictions?
Research Questions:
- In what ways can e-learning integrate cultural and language learning to ensure continuity and renewal of Indigenous cultures and languages?
- How can E-learning embrace local community values and protocols for particular uses in their communities and cultures; how can national and international policy be created to respect those decisions?
- To what extend is e-learning limited by a lack of a social process or advanced by knowledge of process over content?
- What are the limitations or barriers for e-learning among Aboriginal peoples? How will this technology contribute to learning and knowledge of self, community and society?
- Review what we know (literature reviews/scans/inventories/report syntheses/meet with informed people…)
- Ask and listen to what people say (workshops, conferences, schools, surveys, consultations…)
- Share what we hear (webpage, conferences, communities, reports, virtual library…)
- Identify successes and find ways to report and celebrate these with each other and the Canadian public.
